Description

Overlooking the 16th and 11th fairways of Bryce Resort, this great home has 100ft of decks to enjoy the vistas & changing seasons after a day of sports or leisure. W/3-4 BRs, 3 RENOVATED BAs and ample room for guests & for entertainment. Spacious light-filled rooms, two gas FPs, Hardwood, slate, ceramic tile & vinyl floors. Great location close to golf, skiing, mountain biking, restaurant & more. GARAGE! NEW HVAC! Lots of storage and good attic for possible expansion. Sited on it's own half-acre island of land, 74 Keith Place is a custom home originally built for a Navy Admiral whose life in the service inspired the design. The house has features reminiscent of a ship with decks going from fore to aft affording lovely views of the golf course beyond and mountains in winter. The landscaping, with specimen trees that have grown up over time provide beautiful dappled shade. With three modes of access: via the garage, up stairs to the kitchen entry off the deck or via the formal entry around the side of the house, convenience has been built-in along with a lot of storage and a utility room closet that is below grade to keep your wine bottles just the right temperature. Large green double doors greet your guests to the main entry of the house, into a large separate foyer with beautiful vert-de-gris slate tile and a coat closet. To the right via a graceful archway is the octagonal living room with a gas fireplace, hardwood floors, two windows & sliding doors to the deck with access to lower decks. Left of the front door, via another archway, is the dining room with two windows and a hidden cupboard, hardwood floors and generous lighting. Adjacent is the large kitchen with new stainless appliances and a walk out to a deck for alfresco meals. A corridor off the entry foyer leads to a large ensuite Master Bedroom with door to the upper deck. Down the corridor is another bedroom and bath and a pull-down stair to the attic. This attic space, with its fine timbers, could be built into a treetop room. Off the entry foyer are carpeted stairs with wrought iron railings leading downstairs. A garage door opens to a spacious one-car garage with plenty of storage space or room for a workshop. The garage is a convenient way into the house and the driveway is level with room for several cars. The lower level also has the large utility room with high ceilings, vinyl flooring in the hallway and bedrooms, good light, and another bath (there are three RENOVATED baths in all). Down the corridor with great lighting are two additional rooms which could be offices or bedrooms and at the end, under the living room, the family room. A gas fireplace occupies the far end and access to the garden is possible via the door to the right of the fireplace. Come make this house your own! Basye-Bryce Resort is 1:30 to 2:00 hours from the DC metropolitan area and in the Allegheny Mountains of Shenandoah County. It has been a getaway from big city congestion since the 1900s. The community has underground utilities with high speed internet connections the norm. The Resort offers snow skiing and snowboarding in winter with great classes for all ages. Tubing, whether summer or winter is enjoyed by many. Golf, tennis, mountain biking, zip line and swimming and fishing in 46 acre lake Laura are among the summer activities, along with hiking in nearby National Forests and concerts four miles away at Orkney Springs. Lake Laura has recently been brought up to 500-year flood standards and a new Lodge was completed in January 2019. Private pilots can land at VG-18 SkyBryce Airport (daytime operations only) for breakfast at the Lodge a short walk away. The Airport Library is, we think, the only one in the lower 48. Temperatures tend to be 10 degrees and cooler and 10% less humid than at lower elevations. Residents are from all over and from many walks of life and either live here full-time or have a part-time presence.

Bryce

Bryce Resort is located about two hours west of the DC metropolitan area, next to the George Washington National Forest in Shenandoah County. It rests in a small valley within the greater Shenandoah Valley, the “Valley of the Daughter of the Stars,” nestled against the West Virginia border in the Appalachian Mountain range. The elevation of the area varies from 1,263 feet to 1,760 feet. The area around Bryce Resort is typically ten degrees cooler and ten percent less humid than the DC area, with lilting breezes almost every day.

Bryce Resort has been offering outdoor activities to visitors since 1905. Traditionally speaking, it is a place where people sought respite from heat, humidity and busy professional lives. This is a trend that has continued well into the 21st century.

Quality of Life:

Today’s activities include golf, skiing, tennis, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, hunting, flying, and more recently, zip-line, bungee jumping, rock climbing and mini golf. Bryce is renowned for its sports clinics for people of all ages. Indoor activities include fine and casual dining, music, cards, and the meetings of various clubs and charitable organizations. The core area of Bryce Resort includes a lodge, a sports complex, a ski building, and a members lounge and locker room.

Fifty-two miles of private roads surround homes on the slopes, many of them with mountain views. There are two lakes, the largest of which, Lake Laura, has a beach area with lounge chairs, a concession stand, pedal boats, pontoons, and kayaks available for use. The water is soft and children grow up with fond memories of diving off pontoons or canoeing during the long, lazy days of summer. Fishing is allowed and permits are available at the community store. Boating is permitted, but no gasoline engines. Hunting is possible in the George Washington National Forest in season with a permit. Flying is done from the Sky Bryce Airport (VG-18) and it is an easy walk from the ramp to the Lodge and all activities. There is also an all-volunteer public library with Wi-Fi at the airport.

The Sky Bryce Homeowners Association provides road maintenance and snow removal, refuse pickup, and a roving security patrol. Homeowners enjoy underground utilities, public water and sewer service, high-speed Internet, and cable TV. In general, there are fewer outages in Bryce than in the DC metro area because of the underground utilities and the excellence of the utilities providers.

Homeowners in Bryce typically do not have lawns, since most of them have lawns at their principal residences, so the woods are deep and cool, and there is ample separation between homes for privacy. The area attracts people from all professions – some come just to relax and stay fit, others enjoy telecommuting from their Bryce home.

Whether you seek the peace of a natural setting in the Shenandoah or a lively day of sports and activities, Bryce Resort has something to offer all of your family and friends.
